This paper is about a standard applied demography exercise, associated with housing demand and the household size in Brazil between 1992 and 2023 including issues associated with the demographic dividend and gender relations in housing demand. This study is part of an institutional project developed for the Secretariat of Housing of the Brazilian Ministry of Cities that deals with quantifying the future demographic demand in housing for the National Policy on Housing. The method applied was the specific headship rate method, modeled and projected by Age Period Cohort models, combined with population projection by sex and age. The findings indicated that the size of the households had substantially declined at the projection period. Nevertheless, the number of households headed by women and with five and more persons increase in the period projection.
