Internal migration among immigrants

Over the last fifteen years the net-migration has been the factor that has contributed the most to the population growth in Sweden. Where within the national borders the population grows largely depends on were the immigrants settle. The aim of the study is to illustrate the internal migration patterns of the immigrants and to investigate the incitements behind the observed patterns. In the study the immigrants are divided into groups according to the reason for settlement (refugees, work migrants etc). The group’s migration patterns are then analyzed, using a register containing all immigrants and all their internal migrations during the years 1997-2007. The results are showing different migration patterns for the groups of immigrants. For the refugees that has got asylum in Sweden the internal migration is continuously generating segregated areas, while other groups like work migrants from countries outside EU migrates to less segregated areas.
