The health of children in Argentina. A high-priority right? Analysis of the progress of commitments contracted by the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)

María Marta Santillán Pizarro, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba - Universidad Católica de Córdoba
Ines Harrington, Universidad Catolica de Cordoba

The paper aims to introduce a system of indicators that, following the Human Rights Based Approach, approximate the degree of progress made on the commitments undertaken by Argentina since its adhesion to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), especially regarding health issues. According to that subscription, Argentina should have adapted its internal norms, and should have also developed programs and politics at the same time. That is the reason why we are focusing in those areas, their degree of effectiveness and the situation and evolution of the exercise of rights by children involved in different social status. The paper springs from a project we are developing at the university. The system gives the chance to evaluate the commitments assumed and its results. The research data comes from the revision of current norms, implemented politics and programs and also official statistical information and surveys related to health.
