Gabriela A. Sala, Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET)

The analysis of qualified emigration of Latin Americans to the United States had a considerable development since the 70’s. In contrast, it is scarce and recent the intellectual production regarding Latin-American qualified emigration to Europe and the migration exchange among countries of the Latin American’s Southern Cone. This article aims at determining the magnitude of the presence and characteristics of the qualified migrants of the Latin American’s Southern Cone living in Argentina and Brazil, according to information from the last demographic census. It revises some conceptual aspects referred to the qualified migration of Latin Americans. It also analyzes the age in which they fixed their residence in these two countries and some features like their professions. The article also analyses the occupational distribution of different cohorts of regional migrants and contains some references to the over-qualification of their labor insertion.
