Households and housing in Venezuela: a prospective approach to 2016

Focusing on the macro-static model so-called headship rate and using data from census micro files and national surveys, we prepare the first Venezuelan households projections. To achieve this purpose we examined in detail the household and housing situation up to present. In this respect, there is a bipolarity-shaping household conformation. There is not a single predominant pattern to define the households composition. In short term, Venezuela has been living the demographic transition process; however, there is an economic development lethargy affecting households dynamics. The non-nuclear households, especially the extended multigenerational household formation (3 or more generations) as emerged strategies of the most disadvantaged population and, at the same time, part of the population, live in a nuclear households where the average size is determined by fertility decline. Under these complexity scenarios, we examined the Venezuelan households and housing dynamics and what could be to the 2016 horizon. KEYWORDS: Households dynamics, housing, household projection.
